Their Finest Hour
This film is about the future for the generations we are teaching now. The knowledge about technology is important because it is changing everything, not only education. Children will become the leaders of our future and will need technology and the knowledge about safety from natural disasters, green buildings, and being eco-friendly because the human race is up against its own extinction. The hope is us...their teachers...who will teach students HOW to reduce the human footprint on Earth through the use of all forms of technology. Creativity, knowledge of real-life science and global problems, and technology are the HOPE for the future.

Thanks, Janice. I'd never even heard of this documentary. I love the way DiCaprio is leveraging the power of Web2.0 by asking us, the viewers, to take an active role in submitting our solutions. This is where we move from the inert consumer role to the active "prosumer" (producer/consumer). You can see how the Web1.0 was similar to the traditional role of media we learned to accept; T.V., radio, books, newspapers... I will now hunt down this video and watch it in its entirety. BTW, I put a link to whiteboard activities in the Middle School Science section of our resource site - www.webucation.piczo.com
ReplyDeleteExcellent connection. Do you know of any videos that show teachers in action with students; ways they are engaging with technology to become more environmentally aware? Anything on Edutopia or Teachers TV?
ReplyDeleteThe video is truly amazing. The funniest thing is, I watched it on the Concord Trailways bus from Boston to Portland. I never would have watched it or even heard of it.
ReplyDeleteI will search for other videos of teachers in action with students. I'm hoping to download videos of my students in action!
